Why Grass-Fed Beef?
Cattle are ruminants and have four stomach chambers, which make them supremely and specifically designed for the digestion of grass. In the past cows were primarily fattened using grass from thousands of small family farmers. However, currently the majority of cows are fed grain in feedlots by a handful of corporations. This unnatural corn diet fattens the cattle faster, but can cause health problems in the cows which cause many feedlot owners to include antibiotics with their feed. Cattle that are truly grass fed throughout their lives require few antibiotics. In addition many feedlot operations also inject the cattle with growth hormones which cause the animal to gain more weight with fewer inputs. These unnatural management techniques ignore the cow’s natural design, and put the health of the animal, the land and consumers in jeopardy. Feeding ruminants their natural diet of pasture produces a healthier animal, a healthier environment and a healthier consumer.
